As millions of people peacefully protest for justice for George Floyd and the hundreds of lives lost by the police, millions are struggling to survive the coronavirus, unemployment and the ability to pay rent. Even before the pandemic, three in five renters could not come up with $400 in an emergency. How are they supposed to get by now?
Since NFG’s Democratizing Development Program hosted the Health, Housing, Race, Equity and Power Convening earlier this year in Oakland, CA at The California Endowment, we continue to hear powerful stories from funders, community leaders, and public health experts on how we can shift grantmaking approaches and move resources to community organizing and policy demands focused on quality affordable housing for all.
Nonprofit and community leaders are responding to the crisis with bold ideas to #cancelrent and Homes Guarantee. For this meeting, we want to continue to create space for funders to engage in discussions on how we are responding to the crisis and what do we individually and institutionally need during these challenges times.
Join us to discuss how these issues intersect with the growing health disparities among communities of color, as well as how funders are supporting power building and policy shifting efforts.
