Michigan Philantrophy for the People MP3
What We Do
MP3 is a broad community of local, regional, and national funders working in deep collaboration to increase and coordinate resources for organizing infrastructure in Michigan communities working to change unjust systems. MP3 is housed within Neighborhood Funders Group’s Midwest Organizing Infrastructure Funders.
How We Do It
We build brave spaces where funders listen deeply to communities and engage in collective action that aligns funding decisions, outcomes, and strategy with the current landscape of community change work in Michigan.
Specifically, we engage in the following activities:
- Co-learning and political education
- Moving aligned resources to groups building community power across the state
- Influencing/shaping Michigan philanthropy to hold a justice and community power frame
Why We Do It
We believe that if funders are committed to equity and justice, then we must support community work that is building collective power and grassroots leadership, creating systems change and new narratives, and leading mobilization and direct action. We believe that when philanthropy is coordinated and in genuine partnership with communities that hold the sharpest analysis and answers for how to build a more just world, we can magnify our impact and accountability.
What We Envision
We envision Michigan to be a state where philanthropy continually engages in its own transformation and right relationship with movement in order to transform unjust systems. We envision philanthropy building the collective courage to unapologetically support community power and bold visions for justice.
